Scrolling in Outlook 2011 on OS X Mavericks is not smooth

Ever since I upgraded to OS X Mavericks scrolling within an email message in Outlook 2011 has been choppy. It’s been an annoyance that I noticed immediately after upgrading but only recently started searching the web for a solution.

The solution, and I can confirm that it worked for me, was to change back to pre-Mavericks > Always show scrollbars.

System Preferences > General > select the radio button for Show scroll bars to Always

General Preferences

    1. After three days of jerky scrolling and no help from Apple, I desperately decided to re-install Maverick to see if that would help. This erased all previous traces of the first install which was only 2 months ago, plus it wiped away all my content on my computer-so it was risky. Happy to say it did work-I now have all smooth scrolling back (arrows also). Funniest thing I have noticed I also got many things that were not included in my first install (graphics, wording, many beneficial items). This has not fixed my missing “k” letter though that just won’t work. I have to use an added keyboard until I can buy another Mac one. Apple has been no help with that either problem either. This took me about 2 hours.

  1. Thanks a million — I upgraded yesterday and it was driving me CRAZY…… So appreciate it – fixed it immediately!!!

  2. I’m extremely impressed with your writing talents and also with the
format for your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it your self?
Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a
nice blog like this one these days..

  3. i have smooth scrolling for user 1 but for user 2 it is chunky. Environment is Yosemite running Outlook2011. 32Gb ram & 2 Gb ram card. All other apps are smooth.
If i make the suggested change the scrolling gets worse – extremely chunky and flashing
